    The University Counseling Center is located in P301 Peabody Hall. The major
    goal of the Center is to provide counseling and student development services
    to students. Individual, couples, and group counseling are available to help
    students with a wide variety of personal, academic, and career concerns. All
    counseling is confidential.

    Appointments may be made in person Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to
    5:00 p.m. Typically, the student's first contact will be an intake interview in
    which the student and counselor make decisions about the type of help needed.
    Students requiring immediate help are seen on a non-appointment emergency
    basis.

    Other services include Outreach Programs and Consultation, and the following
    special counseling programs: alcohol and substance abuse, couples,
    multicultural, women's issues, and math confidence. The Peer Counseling
    Program involves specially trained undergraduate students who provide a help
    with choosing a major, computer assisted career counseling, and study skills

Counseline

    Counseline is a part of the NEXUS taped telephone information service and is
    sponsored by the Counseling Center. This part of the service provides
    self-help tapes with everything that can make life easier for you while you are
    a student at the University of Florida. Brochures are available at several
    locations around campus, and a complete listing is included in the front of the
    Campus Telephone Directory. Just call 392-1683 and ask for the tape by
    number.

 Mental Health Services

    Mental Health counseling, psychotherapy and psychiatric services are
    available for a wide range of personal, interpersonal and emotional concerns
    to all students enrolled for classes at the University of Florida.

    Student Mental Health is located on the second floor of the Student Health
    Care Center, room 245. Hours of the clinic are:

        Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
        Tues.-Thurs. 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
        Closed on Weekends

    Please call 392-1171 for an appointment. For 24-hour urgent care, an
    answering service will connect you with a counselor when the service is
    closed.

Health Education Department

    Health educators and registered dietitians provide individual and group
    information sessions designed to address specific problems that face college
    students. Call or visit the service for printed materials and confidential
    information about such issues as: wellness, self care, birth control options,
    AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), nutrition, eating disorders,
    alcohol/substance abuse, exercise and strength training, behavior modification
    and other health topics. Evening programs in residence halls and for other
    student groups can be scheduled. Peer education groups are also available to
    present group programs on safer sex and AIDS, body acceptance and eating
    disorder prevention, and skin cancer prevention.

    Information, appointments, and referrals are available by calling 392-1161,
    ext. 4281, or by stopping by the Health Education office in the Student Health
    Care Center. This office is open Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to noon and from
    1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome. The Health Education office is
    supported by your Student Health Fee. There is no charge for any of the
    services or printed materials.
 

Center for Sexual Assault/Abuse Recovery Education (CARE)

    CARE therapists provide counseling services to victims of sexual assault
    (including rape, incest and child sexual abuse), sexual harassment and
    battering. Individual and group counseling are available to both men and
    women.

    In addition to counseling services, CARE also provides information to
    interested persons regarding sexual violence. CARE Peer Educators, who
    include both graduate and undergraduate students, are specially trained to
    conduct presentations and provide general information on date/acquaintance
    rape to residence halls, classrooms and campus organizations. CARE Peer
    Educators are also involved in special programming throughout the year.

    CARE is located on the third floor of the Student Health Care Center,
    392-1161 ext. 4231. This service is available Monday through Friday, 8:00
    am to 5:00 pm. Appointments are available and walk-ins are welcome.
 
 

 Student Health Care Center (SHCC)

    The Student Health Care Center (SHCC) is an accredited outpatient clinic that
    provides primary medical care, mental health counseling, health
    education/promotion, and numerous specialty services. The Center is staffed
    by physicians, physician assistants, advanced registered nurse practitioners,
    R.N.s, psychiatrists and other mental health counselors, certified health
    education specialists, registered dietitians, and many other health care
    professionals to assist UF students' needs. Full pharmacy, Laboratory, X-ray,
    and EKG services are available and on-site in the historic (but newly
    renovated) Infirmary Building on Fletcher Drive. There is also a satellite
    clinic of services, "SHCC at Shands" (room A1-132) for the convenience of
    UF students who spend most or all of their day at the J. Hillis Miller Health
    Science Center. All registered University of Florida Students pay a mandatory
    Health Fee per credit hour each semester. This entitles them to unlimited
    consultations (free office visits) with almost all staff except in some specialty
    service areas. There are some fees-for-service such as laboratory tests,
    x-rays, prescriptions, etc., which may be covered by the student's own health
    insurance policies. UF Student Government sponsors an optional policy which
    students may choose to purchase.

    The SHCC is closed on Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving,
    Christmas Day and New Years Day.

    A physician and mental health counselor are available for telephone
    consultation or referral after hours weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
