Homework
Working problems is the best way to test your understanding of new
concepts. I will point out problems that I think are interesting in your
textbook, and from other sources. This assigned work will not be handed
in but is not considered optional.
Exams
Mid-Terms
There will be four in-class, long answer exams (mid-terms)
given on the following dates:
1/26 . 2/23 . 3/30 . 4/20
These exams will be held in our lecture hall on Mondays during normal
class time. No conflicts with the exam times should therefore occur. Sample
exams are available from the instructor and on the web, but no assurance
of the similarity of questions is implied. If any conflicts arise with
these exam times, they must be reported to Brucat
at least two weeks prior to the scheduled exam time. No makeup Exams will
be given. If a grading discrepancy is found, exams will be regraded in
their entirety.
Final
There will be No Final Exam
Instead, a final
project will be assigned 2 weeks before the end of classes. You will work
alone on this project, i.e. consult no one living or dead except Brucat
about your work. You may use any non-sentient resources available,
however.
Grades
The grade for this course will be derived from the cumulative point
value (score) of the three (3) midterm exams and the final. The breakdown
of the point values of these items is as follows:
MidTerms...........200 x 4
Final Project ......200
Total .................1000
The following letter grades are guaranteed for the corresponding acquired cumulative score:
A ...... Score > 800
B+ .... Score > 750
B ...... Score > 650
C ...... Score > 500
Posting of Grades
All Grades will be posted by student Social Security number unless requested
of the instructor in writing before the end of the first week of classes.
